Camp at a Glance

Dear Readers,
The summer is rapidly approaching an end! I cannot belive how quickly it has flown by. Though some look at summer as a relaxing time to catch up on all the lost sleep from the school year, with five weeks of camp behind me and one soon to come I've had everything but sleep! I'm pausing just for a moment now to reflect on the events of the past five weeks. I have been able to win at least a soul to the Lord every week of camp. For me, that has probably been the biggest highlight. Serving at a church camp has provided me several opportunities to preach each week as well as sing constantly. I've had to learn to channel my vocal energy from yelling and cheering for my team to singing tenor in a special just minutes later. I'll never forget the first week where I had been screaming my head off for my team at the morning competition. Then, Dr. Griffis asked me to sing in the morning service just moments before it began. I was already nervous enough at the large number of people but the knowledge of my failing voice only added to the tention. I reached the pinnacle of the song and just as I hit that note!!!.....my voice popped. I've never felt so embarrassed in all my life. I was able to make up for it the next day.
I've learned so much from Brother George Griffis these past several weeks. He impressed a burden on my heart for lost souls. For someone who isn't usually quite as emotional as most, shedding tears for people looked to be a difficult task. But, as the summer progresses I don't find it as difficult to be constantly on my knees for these campers. It has especially been great to see the fruits of our labor in prayer when the altar is flooded, the lost are saved, the backslidden are reclaimed, and people are called to the ministry. We'll never know on this earth what an impact we've had on the world by being part of this amazing ministry.
Now, I must confess, camp is not all about spiritual stuff. We've had TONS of fun these past 5 weeks. Below you'll find some of the pictures from the worker's trip to "Short Creek." This is a creek that flows from a cave and into a second. We had tons of fun traveling there (even if we were in a Ford) and exploring the cave. The only drawback was the FREEZING, FRIGID, 20 DEGREES BELOW ZERO water!!! But, we did find that after a while....your body goes numb and you don't feel a thing! : )
I've made some awesome new friends this year and I look forward to going back again next year. Please be in prayer for our final teen week of the summer. Pray that God's power would be on the Preacher and the Preaching. Pray that hearts would soften even before reaching the camps gates. Finally, pray that this would be the greatest week of camp that we've ever seen. We long to see it "get out of the banks" before Wednesday.
"The cleaner your heart is, the less it takes to entertain you." - Evangelist George Griffis, D.D.
